Casey Moore, Host
Hey there everyone! Welcome to the first blog post for the Respawn Lounge podcast.
At the time of writing, Respawn Lounge is in the middle of a short break between seasons 1 and 2. The three of us are on winter break from university, so while we’re taking the opportunity to relax and prepare for the next semester (and the final one of undergrad for Dan and myself), we’re also retooling everything about the podcast – new artwork, a new co-host (Reva), music, and this website, as well as getting our content available on iTunes rather than the somewhat cumbersome YouTube.
Since this is the first truly public piece of writing that’s been done on Respawn Lounge, I’ll also explain what it is – if you already know, you may prefer to skip this paragraph. Respawn Lounge is a creative idea that Dan and myself had back in July 2016. We were playing games together, Dark Souls 2 I think, and threw around the idea of having a show where we talked about stuff happening in the world of video games, as most gamers tend to do at some point. It wasn’t serious, but with some push from our friend Anna (the original artist, and periodic guest) we worked out a name, then a format, then the logistics of investing in equipment and such. In mid-August, we hosted our first episode on Twitch with an okay microphone we borrowed from another friend in Dan’s dorm room. By the end of the season in early December, we’d found a nicer room and bought a nicer microphone, had found our strides, and Reva found their way through a window and hasn’t left yet.
That’s the gist of it, anyway. We talk about video games. That’s nothing special in itself, and we’re well aware of that – but you have to start somewhere right? Someone once asked me how we plan to set ourselves apart from everyone else doing the same thing, and I said, “We’d be smarter and funnier than them,” and although I said that with my tongue pressed hard into my cheek, I was sincere insofar that I plan to take this as seriously and professionally as I can. We have no expectations to meet but our own, and the ones I’ve set for myself are rather high.
Fortunately, the three of us come from pretty varied backgrounds regarding the games we grew up with. Even more than the perspectives that grants our motley crew, it’s a learning experience as well, and ultimately that’s the goal of this project is to see what we can learn about broadcasting and keeping to a schedule, producing enjoyable content, etc.
One of the benefits to being a little startup like this is that interaction with a small audience takes minimal time and energy, so we like to be responsive to anyone who reaches out to us. I’ll provide links to how to do that below, although there’s also a contact form on this site you can find easily from the home page. We welcome any and all feedback, casual discussion, and birthday gifts. Mine’s in June, so you’ve got plenty of time – I like expensive food and cheap alcohol.
We’re working out the finer details, but what I can assure is that on Tuesdays there will be a blog post here that may or may not be tangential to the episode we upload on Thursdays. Writing is voluntary and discretionary between our hosts, but we’re pretty certain it won’t be an issue that keep content coming. I plan to have the first one posted this coming Tuesday, December 27th, and every Tuesday following.
If you’re looking for the previous episodes, first, thanks! and second, we’re working on it. Dan ran into some issue on the technical side of things but we’re getting everything worked out and will have those available shortly. To the best of my knowledge, we’ll be uploading to iTunes so that they’ll be available on apps like Podcast Addict if your device can’t access it.
Thanks for reading all the way down here. I know this was a long-winded post but I want to ensure that anyone who’s interested is up to date. Quality is my first priority, but transparency is my second.
To summarize, old episodes will be available soon, new episodes will start January 12th, they can be found on iTunes and podcast apps, and writing will start December 27th. Contact information will be just below here.
Kept you waiting, huh?
